Scripture: Psalm 58
58:11 – “Mankind will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous;
surely there is a God who judges on earth.“
Last month I stood in front of God, a congregation of people, and soon to be husband and wife, as I officiated a marriage ceremony. Weddings commonly incorporate the exchanging of vows and rings, but I also like to share with the newlyweds what I’m praying God will do through their marriage. As the Psalmist of Psalm 58 understood, God makes his presence and power known through the lives of His people. There is no denying that we live in a broken world that makes covenant keeping difficult. It’s common for people to walk away and give up on their commitments, but when people go against the cultural norm, refuse to quit or push away quickly or easily, and instead of fighting within their marriage they fight FOR their marriage, a powerful and sustaining God is made visible. Surely, no one walks away from a wedding doubting the groom or bride’s love for one another; neither will they walk away from seeing God’s people persevere through adversity without taking notice. It is through these impressions that God’s love and grace is made visible.
Question:
Have you ever had someone’s faith in Christ leave a lasting impression by encouraging your faith in Christ? Take a moment and let them know!
Prayer:
Lord, we know that you are a God with an incredible plan to redeem a broken world. May the impressions we give through adversity point to a loving and sustaining Savior. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
